When I was commissioned to create the cover art for the Dishwalla album, I listened to it very carefully, then promised the group they would be pleasantly surprised at the result. Inspired by a tattoo that was used as a t-shirt design, I had Elly pose for me. The rose comes to life here and seems to take on a life of its own. It’s an example that good art is bigger than the artist. It’s also about the sacrifices that artists and musicians make, represented by the little bit of blood and sweat coming down. Since I always thought of their music as being sexy, it made sense to use a woman’s body in the painting.
